Ad Gefrin Distillery & Visitor Experience

Ad Gefrin Distillery & Visitor Experience is a new multi-million pound visitor destination that will showcase the heritage, ancient hospitality, arts and products of Northumberland, and will re-establish the Northumbrian tradition for whisky distilling. Based in the town of Wooler, it aims to become a ‘must visit’ venue in the region and is seen as vital in providing a magnet for tourism and a boost to exports from the area with its whisky offering.

Studio MB have been appointed by the team as design lead, to create an immersive experience for the visitor that includes exploring the Golden Age of the Kingdom of Northumbria, and the 7th Century Royal Palace that stood at nearby Yeavering, as well as weaving in narratives that directly link with the landscape, archaeology, and compelling and unique stories of the area. 

The distillery experience will allow visitors to explore the 200-year-old local tradition for whisky distilling and guide them through the history and process to today’s production of Northumbrian English Single Malt Whisky, which aims to begin distilling the first spirit in late spring 2022.
