Internship stories

At Studio MB, we have a track record for supporting design students and graduates through a range of opportunities. These have included: student/graduate internship programmes; mentoring programmes; work experience placements; lecturing programmes, presentations, further education visits and conferences.

In 2018, we were delighted to welcome two student/graduate interns within our Graphics department. Here’s what they had to say about their experience with Studio MB.

 

Tom Lansdown (Student) - Graphics Intern, July 2018:

"I found everyone at Studio MB to be welcoming and encouraging during my placement, keeping me busy with diverse jobs on different fascinating projects. It was the perfect introduction to a (design) work environment, balancing solo and cooperative work on projects of various scales. Alongside gaining a clearer understanding of how departments collaborate on large projects to produce the final outcome.

The benefits of being in a position where professionals can provide tips on how to do work more efficiently and effectively was invaluable. After finishing the placement, I feel I’m more confident in my skills and informed about prospects in the industry.

I am extremely grateful to everyone at Studio MB for welcoming me, and making me feel like part of the team."

 

Alison Murray-Uren (Graduate) - Graphics Intern, November 2018:

"In November 2018 I did a placement at Studio MB – and I’ll never forget it. Fresh out of university with my degree in Graphic Design and raring to go, Studio MB was the most inspiring company to have had the chance to spend time in.

I worked on some fascinating projects whilst I was there, sat in on meetings with clients and was trusted on live briefs. The vast scale of the projects was new to me, having to get my head around the server and all those graphic codes! I recognised the attention to detail required to bring these ambitious projects to life. Studio MB’s work really stretched my concept of graphic design, having to consider such varied challenges throughout the design process – like the logistics of achieving type on marble. It was eye-opening to see the graphic design team collaborate with the 3D and content teams to create these educational, multi-sensory, large scale exhibitions.

The atmosphere in the Studio MB office is lively. They really know how to work extremely hard whilst maintaining a certain level of banter. Throughout my placement I was made so welcome by everyone, especially the graphic design team who took me under their wing and made sure I got the most out of my time there. Their help and guidance did not end when I left my placement, and I have returned since for advice which I am extremely grateful for. Thank you!

My time at Studio MB revealed a lot to me about the industry, and also how many cups of tea and coffee that a small group of humans can drink in 8 hours. It made me even more excited about the future and the possibilities of graphic design. Forever thankful for the opportunity.”
